Freediving is becoming more and more popular, as shown by the increase in freediving seminars. So, what’s so fascinating about this sport? Is it about how deep you can go, pushing your own limits to the extreme, the physical challenge, or the beauty of the underwater world? It’s probably a combination of all of the above, as well as the amazing feeling of being completely relaxed underwater. When you reach that state you’re just a little bit closer to understand the world of the dolphins. It’s far more than just snorkelling. It’s the ability to remain underwater for a long period of time and to dive to depths that someone without training would only be able to do with equipment. As you develop your freediving skills, you’ll find that you get more satisfaction when exploring the underwater world. And it will increase your safety and relaxation when scuba diving too.

Dahab is THE place to learn freediving. Freedive Dahab is a freediving training center and AIDA school, run by Lotta Ericson and Linda Paganelli.

Lotta, a well known Swedish freediver, and former world record holder, started Freedive Dahab in 2004, when she moved to Dahab with her family. Since then she teaches AIDA courses, and organizes record attempts, competitions and freediving events.

Linda is an Italian freediver who lives in Dahab since 2002, training and teaching freediving. She joined Lotta in Freedive Dahab in early 2006.

Living in Dahab allows them to dive daily and to train frequently with many other top freedivers. Both Lotta and Linda are national record holders in several freediving disciplines.

Freedive Dahab runs AIDA courses. AIDA is the International association for the development of Apnea - is a Worldwide Federation for freediving, established in 1992. It manages and oversees the recognition of records, organizes competitions, and sets the standards for freediving education. AIDA certifies freedivers, instructors and judges.

In a two-day course you’ll learn the basics of free diving. The theory is backed up with practice and most students find they can hold their breath for up to three or four minutes after just few days training, enabling them to dive to 15/20 metres.

Maybe you’re already a freediver and want to brush up on your skills or just extend your training with Lotta and Linda. That’s also possible. If you’re interested then fill in the booking and enquiry form. Please let us know when you’re planning to travel and we’ll let you know whether Lotta and Linda are running any courses – just in case they are at the next world championship contest when you plan to come!

AIDA ** - Duration of the course: 2,5 days

Prerequisites: 18 years (16 with guardian’s signature). Maximum 4 students per course.
This is a course for beginners who want to learn all the basic theory and techniques of freediving.
The course includes:
- 1 breath holding-session during which you will learn breathing and relaxation techniques, and you will be able to extend your breath-hold times easily.
- 1 dynamic apnea session during which you will practice horizontal underwater swimming and learn how to move efficiently.
- 3 theory sessions during which you will learn the basics of freediving physics and physiology; how to prevent shallow water blackout; how to rescue a freediver in trouble.
- 4 diving sessions during which you will practice rescue procedures, technique training and streamlining, and at the end of the course you will be able to dive comfortably to the depth of 15-20 meters.
Price: 205 EUR (incl. freediving equipment, Aida certification of ** level) Blue Hole

AIDA ***- Duration of the course: 3 days

This is an intermediate course for freedivers who want to learn more advanced techniques and dive a bit deeper, up to 25-30 meters.
Prerequisites: AIDA ** (or equivalent), 18 years (16 with guardian’s signature). Maximum 4 students per course.
The course includes:
- 1 breath-holding session during which you will practice O2 and CO2 tables, learn training concepts for static, and how to prepare a maximum attempt.
- 1 dynamic apnea session during which you will practice horizontal swimming, prepare a maximum performance, and practise safety procedures.
- 3 theory sessions during which you will learn what happens to the body (and lungs) when the surrounding pressure becomes greater and how the body adapts to this (mammalian dive reflex); we will go deeper into equalization techniques.
- 4 diving sessions, during which we will refine your swimming technique and streamlining, learn how to freefall and practise the new equalization techniques. We will also practice more rescue scenarios on the surface and at depth.
Price: 220 EUR (incl. freediving equipment, AIDA certification of *** level, and trip to Blue Hole during the last day of the course.)

AIDA **** - Duration of the course: 4 days

This is the advanced course for freedivers who are ready to start diving deeper than 30m. All the necessary techniques for deep freediving are covered.
Prerequisites: AIDA *** (or equivalent), First Aid course, 18 years (16 with guardian’s signature). Maximum 4 students per course.
The course includes:
- 2 pool sessions during which we will practise new breathing techniques, prepare maximum performance, and practise coaching a buddy through a static and a dynamic session.
- 3 theory sessions during which we go deep into all the theory regarding deep diving and deep equalization techniques. We speak about cross training, and nutrition for freediving.
